How To Play Flute: Playing Basic Notes

In the previous postI discussed about the 12 basic swaras / notes in Indian classical music. Seven among them are shuddho / original notes and others are komol / flat and tibra / sharp notes. To create music from the sound of a flute we need to know how to play these notes.

1. Sa (shuddho / original) :

To play 'Sa', you need to cover first 3 hole with your index, middle , and ring fingers of one hand. Use of left hand or right hand depends on your preference. Keeping the three holes covered you should blow air with little pressure.

2. Re (shuddho / original) :

To play 'Re', you need to cover first 2 hole with your index and middle fingers of one hand.

3. Ga (shuddho / original) :

To play 'Re', you need to cover the first with your index finger of one hand.
